Information Governance in a Post-EHR Era

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

We are now in the post-EHR era—a time when a critical mass of healthcare providers have implemented EHR technology, spurred by meaningful use incentive payments provided by the federal government to jumpstart adoption. In order to meet the government’s deadlines and new business needs, however, EHR technology has often been hurriedly implemented (“slammed in”) with little thought given to data and information integrity. Some healthcare organizations will literally have to pay for this, now having to backtrack in order to address costly quality, safety, and workflow issues. This session will explore how information governance is not only addressing these data and information integrity issues, but also enabling the use of all their information assets for managing in a new environment of healthcare reform. Attendees will learn how and why healthcare data and information integrity is more important than ever for the sustainability of providers and how it will become nearly impossible for them to succeed without information governance in this new era.

Learning Objectives:
1) Explain what information governance is and its relationship to data governance.
2) Understand the environmental aspects of health care that are driving the need for and adoption of information governance program.
3) Discuss the role of the documentation integrity specialist in the information lifecycle.\
